2011 Championship of Champions

Corinthian Sailing Club, Dallas, TX – The Sunfish Class will be represented by a strong group of sailors at the 2011 US Sailing Championship of Champions.  The teams containing members of the class are:

  • Andrew and Marcus Eagan
  • Anne Edwards, Todd Edwards, Bill Brangiforte
  • Paul-Jon Patin, Rodrigo Favela, Ann Ramsey
  • Dick Tillman and Scott Young

This is a highly exclusive and contested championship where the fleet is made up of national champions from a variety of classes.  The Sunfish Class is honored to see so many of its sailors participating and wishes them all the best of luck!

US Sailing Championship of Champions

Greenwich, CT – On Thursday Bill Brangiforte, the 2010 North American Champion, will represent the Sunfish Class at the US Sailing Championship of Champions. The prestigious regatta is limited to individuals who are a 2009 or 2010 one design class National, North American or World Champion helmsperson.  Bill will sail doublehanded with fellow New England Sunfish sailor, John Skrzypiec, in Ideal 18s.

Paul Foerster Wins Pan Am Trials

The United States Pan American Games Trials concluded today (Oct 10) at Bay-Waveland YC, MS. Through eight races over 2 days, only 5 points separated Paul Foerster from David Mendelblatt. Due to light winds, the regatta would be decided by one final race on the final day. Paul Foerster was clutch in the final race, winning it and the event. David Mendelblatt finished comfortably in second for the series, followed by Jamey Rabbitt.

Results after Day 2

After 2 days of racing Paul Foerster has 4 pt lead over David Mendelblatt. Those two sailors are about 15 points clear of the 3rd place boat. The last day racing has four races scheduled.

Unfortunately, we are experiencing problems with the computer doing the scores.  Updates will come as soon as they are available.

The RC just reported that Paul Foerster won race 7.  I believe he has won multiple races today.

Race #7 Just Started

The RC reports that it is a beautiful, sunny day at Bay-Waveland YC.  The wind is 8-10 knots.

Race #7 just got started.  It is the fourth race of the day.  Paul Foerster has extended his overnight series lead on competitors.

Sunfish Pan Am Trials – Day 1 Summary

The noon start was postponed on shore.  The first start was at 2:40, after the sea breeze filled in.  Three races were completed.  Windward-Leeward twice around was the course.  Wind was 5 knots gusting to 6. The breeze started at 180 and shifted throughout the day to 210.  Race times from start to finish were about 45 minutes.

Competitors were aggressive at the start, but with only one OCS called out of three starts.

Paul Foerster is leading for now, but with throwouts the competition will grows.

Saturday’s start time is 10 AM. The plan is to sail one or two races in the north breeze, come in for lunch and wait for the sea breeze.
